Alejandro "Alex" Vallejo was introduced to music by first playing the
trumpet in the marching, symphonic and jazz bands at his high school
in Birmingham, Alabama. During his senior year, he started playing drums
in the jazz band as well, and by graduation had decided that drumming
was what he wanted to pursue professionally.
After high school, Alejandro and his brothers formed a rock band called The Vallejo Brothers that was inspired by the hard rock of the 70's and 80's. The band played covers on the local rock circuit for a few years before they decided that it was time to try their hand at original music and record their own compositions. Wanting something different from just the 'grunge sound' that was out at the time, the brothers decided to explore the rhythms of their parent's Latin roots by recruiting percussionist, Michael Panepento (Temptations & Four Tops) to help them produce and create the band's sound. Soon after, The Vallejo Brothers dropped the 'Brothers' from their name, calling the band simply Vallejo, and moved to Austin, Texas. Since then, the result has been years of touring all over the U.S. and winning numerous awards for Best Rock Band, Band Of The Year, #2 Best Drummer and Album of the Year at The Austin Music Awards in 2001. Alejandro has also gone on to record albums for the Dirty Wormz, Ill Camino, played percussion in funk bands, The Scabs and Juice, as well as drum programming on MC Overlord's All Good Things. Alejandro's latest recordings on drums is the new Vallejo album due this year (yet to be titled), as well the new Dirty Wormz album, The United Shnakes Of America coming in the fall of 2005. Alejandro is currently playing and endorsing Fibes Drums, Sabian Cymbals, Pro-Mark Sticks and Remo Heads. Look for Alejandro on tour with Vallejo in 2005. |
